To make this nutritious healthy egg whites wheat waffle you need the below ingredients.

  • Egg whites
  • Whole wheat flour
  • Milk
  • Vanilla essence
  • Baking powder
  • Oil

Variations

  • You can add 1-2 scoop of protein powder in order to increase protein content. Any protein powder will work as per dietary restrictions.
  • These waffles are sugar-free, but if you need your waffles sweet in taste, add 2 tbsp of monk fruit, maple syrup, or honey.
  • Almond flour, buckwheat flour & oats flour will also work in place of whole wheat flour.
  • Instead of 2% milk, you can also use almond milk or any plant-based milk.
  • Adding ground cinnamon also goes well to add extra flavor.

How to make whole wheat waffles

Prepare the waffles batter

First, add egg white, milk, oil & vanilla essence in a mixing bowl. Whisk to mix the oil uniformly (pic 1-4).

Now add whole wheat flour and baking powder to the same bowl (pic 5-6). Start folding gently and try not to have any lumps in the batter. It will be like pourable consistency batter (pic 7-8).

There should not be any lumps in the batter. But in case if you get few lumps do not worry about them. They dissolve on their own in some time or get cooked.

Cook waffles

Heat the waffle maker as per instructions. Pour 1/3 cup of batter in both squares and close the lid. Cook them as per your waffle maker instructions.

I cook the waffles for around 5-6 minutes each time but cook more if you like more crisp and golden brown.

I do not always brush my waffle maker with oil or butter. Extra fat definitely works for extra crispiness and browning the waffles. If your waffle maker tends to stick then go ahead and brush with oil.

Serve with desired toppings

We enjoy the waffles with maple syrup or chocolate syrup and berries.

Tips & FAQ’s

  • With this quantity, I made 10 waffles. 1/3 cup of batter used for each waffle. This depends on the waffle maker you have. But using measurement to pour batter gives the right estimation of nutrition in each waffle.
  • While on diet, it is advisable to avoid sugar, not because it is harmful but because it has empty calories and you can use those empty calories for something nutritious. So any sugar-free option is great.
Can I make the waffle batter in advance?

You can make the waffle batter in advance and store it for up to 2-3 days in the fridge. If the batter looks too thick on other days just add little milk and whisk further. Do it till you get the fresh batter-like pourable consistency.

Are waffles healthy?

It completely depends on how you like to make waffles at home or consuming store-bought. Use simple ingredients, less oil, and portion your waffles and you can easily enjoy them with your favorite toppings while following any diet.

Serve these waffles with any nut butter like almond butter, peanut butter, cashew butter, or pecan butter, maple syrup & berries.

Kids enjoy these with a scoop of ice cream and chocolate syrup. For indulgence, you can top it with whipped cream.

Any fruit compote like mixed berry compote goes well with these wheat waffles.

Storing & Reheating

You can store waffles in the fridge for a week easily. You can either microwave them for a minute or air fry.

These egg whites whole wheat waffles are made ahead of and freezer-friendly waffles recipe. First, let them cool down completely, transfer them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Freeze this for two hours, and then transfer them in a ziplock bag and store them in the freezer.

These whole-grain waffles need to be thawed before use. Reheat in the microwave or in the air fryer and enjoy breakfast in any busy mornings.
