- Green beans- Fresh green beans gives better texture, taste great and provides a bit more nutrients than canned beans. Frozen beans get soft after thawing process which results in different texture after cooking. In every way this recipe works and taste good.
- Fresh vs Canned green beans- Should you use fresh or canned beans? Which is healthier? At first place where fresh works BEST in terms of texture and nutrition, canned or frozen beans are not bad either. Canned vegetables are preserved at their highest of BEST, and retain their most nutritional value. Often sodium content is higher in canned food (added to preserve the flavors and safety), you may want to adjust salt accordingly or find where no added sugar or salt in the can. Canned vegetables are already cooked and very soft, final result may not be similar.
- Fresh vs Frozen- Frozen is better to use if compared to canned. They retain their bright green color, and uncooked. Having said that frozen green beans lose their texture in freezing and thawing. You can check how to freeze fresh green beans.
- Potatoes- Any variety of potatoes like, yukon gold, russet, baby potatoes or red potatoes will go with the recipe. Feel free to make use of them.
- Herbs- Baking with sage gives such a festive aroma. These sage roasted potatoes and green beans is one of the holiday recipe to cook and serve. Cilantro, mint, pasrley, oregano, rosemarry, theyme, are other few herbs to use if sage is not available.
- Spices- Garlic, salt, black pepper are few spices using here. Feel free to season it with any of your favourite spices like curry powder, or garama masala powder.
- Oil- Olive oil is preferred but any other vegetable oil works well too. Coconut oil will result in coconutty aroma so use it after considering this fact.
